How much does Etsy take from a $25 sale?

$50$5.20$44.80

How it works

Etsy charges several fees on each order. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price, the shipping you charge and any gift wrap; US sales tax is left out. Payment processing through Etsy Payments is 3% plus $0.25 per order on the whole amount the buyer pays, including tax. Each item sold renews its listing for $0.20. If the buyer came from one of Etsy's offsite ads within 30 days, the Offsite Ads fee is 15% of the items, shipping and gift wrap (12% once your shop has passed $10,000 in sales over a year), capped at $100 per order. Listing in a currency other than your payment account's adds 2.5%. You keep what the buyer paid, minus tax and these fees.

Worked examples

  1. A $25 print with $5 shipping and $2 sales tax: listing $0.20, transaction 6.5% × $30 = $1.95, processing 3% × $32 = $0.96 plus $0.25. Fees $3.36; you keep $26.64.
  2. The same order from an Offsite Ad at 15%: 15% × $30 = $4.50 more. Fees $7.86; you keep $22.14.
  3. A $1,000 ring from an Offsite Ad: 15% would be $150, but the fee is capped at $100. With the transaction fee ($65.00), processing ($30.25) and listing ($0.20), fees are $195.45 and you keep $804.55.

Common questions

How much does Etsy take from a sale?

For a US seller: a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, payment processing of 3% + $0.25 on the whole order including tax, and a $0.20 listing renewal. On a $25 item with no shipping or tax that is $2.83, so you keep $22.17.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both include the shipping you charge. US sales tax is excluded from the transaction fee but included in payment processing.

What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?

If a buyer clicks one of Etsy's ads on another site and orders within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order (items, shipping, gift wrap), or 12% if your shop has made $10,000 or more in a year. The fee is capped at $100 per order.

Can I avoid Etsy Offsite Ads?

Only while your shop has made under $10,000 in sales over the past 365 days; then you can opt out. Once you pass $10,000 you must take part and pay 12% on attributed orders.

How much should I charge to keep a set amount?

Switch the calculator to 'Price to ask' and enter what you want to keep. It finds the lowest item price that leaves you at least that much after all of Etsy's fees, with your shipping, quantity and ads settings.

What does this calculator leave out?

The one-time shop set-up fee, Etsy Ads (you set a daily budget), Etsy Plus and Pattern subscriptions, postage labels, deposit and instant transfer fees, and sellers outside the US. It uses Etsy's Fees & Payments and Etsy Payments policies.
