How it works

Mercari charges sellers a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. Since 6 January 2025 there is no separate payment processing fee for the seller. Buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the same amount, which does not come out of your earnings. When you cash out, a direct deposit to your bank is free and Instant Pay to a debit card costs $3, up to $600 a month. Listings created before 6 January 2025 that were never updated follow the old rules and are not covered here.

Worked examples

  1. A $40 jacket with $6 shipping paid by the buyer: the selling fee is 10% × $46 = $4.60, so you receive $41.40. The buyer pays $47.66 before tax, including $1.66 Buyer Protection.
  2. The same sale cashed out with Instant Pay: $3 more, so $38.40 reaches your debit card.
  3. A $25 item with free shipping and a $5.39 label you buy: the selling fee is $2.50, you receive $22.50, and after the label your profit before the item's cost is $17.11.
