For a seller in Australia Etsy takes a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price, shipping and gift wrap, and payment processing of 3% + A$0.25 per order (4% + A$0.25 on international orders). If you have not given Etsy a GST or VAT ID, it adds 10% GST to its fees (not to processing). Each item sold also renews its listing for US$0.20.

How it works

Etsy charges a seller in Australia several fees on each order. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price, the shipping you charge and any gift wrap. Payment processing through Etsy Payments is 3% plus A$0.25 per order on the whole amount the buyer pays, or 4% plus A$0.25 when the order is international. Unlike the UK, Australia has no Regulatory Operating fee. Each item sold renews its listing for 0.20 USD, which Etsy converts to Australian dollars at the market rate; it does not publish that rate, so enter today's rate to include it. If the buyer came from one of Etsy's offsite ads, the Offsite Ads fee is 15% of the order (12% once your shop has passed 10,000 USD in sales over a year), capped at 100 USD per order. Listing in a currency other than Australian dollars adds 2.5%. Etsy's fees are quoted without GST: if you have not given Etsy a GST or VAT ID, it adds GST, at the Australian rate of 10%, to its fees. This calculator does not add GST to payment processing, because Etsy does not say that it does in Australia.

Worked examples

  1. A $40 print with $10 shipping, domestic, no GST ID: transaction 6.5% × $50 = $3.25, processing 3% × $50 = $1.50 plus $0.25, GST 10% × $3.25 = $0.33. Fees $5.33; you keep $44.67, less the US$0.20 listing renewal.
  2. The same order to an overseas buyer: processing 4% × $50 = $2.00 plus $0.25, so fees are $5.83 and you keep $44.17.
  3. A $100 mug from an Offsite Ad at 15%, no shipping, domestic, no GST ID: transaction $6.50, processing $3.25, Offsite Ads $15.00, GST 10% × $21.50 = $2.15. Fees $26.90; you keep $73.10.

Does Etsy charge GST on its fees in Australia?

Yes, unless you have given Etsy a GST or VAT ID. Etsy's fees are quoted without tax; Australian sellers without an ID are charged it on them each month and get a monthly invoice. With an ID, Etsy does not charge it.

Is there an Etsy Regulatory Operating fee in Australia?

No. Etsy's list of countries with a Regulatory Operating fee includes the UK and Canada, but not Australia.

Why is the Etsy listing fee in US dollars?
