How it works

Etsy charges a seller in Canada several fees on each order. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price, the shipping you charge and any gift wrap. The Regulatory Operating fee for Canada is 0.50% of the same amount. Payment processing through Etsy Payments is 3% plus C$0.25 per order on the whole amount the buyer pays, for orders from Canada and the US, or 4% plus C$0.25 for other international orders. Each item sold renews its listing for 0.20 USD, which Etsy converts to Canadian dollars at the market rate; it does not publish that rate, so enter today's rate to include it. If the buyer came from one of Etsy's offsite ads, the Offsite Ads fee is 15% of the order (12% once your shop has passed 10,000 USD in sales over a year), capped at 100 USD per order. Listing in a currency other than Canadian dollars adds 2.5%. Etsy's fees are quoted without tax; Etsy charges GST/HST, and in some cases PST, RST or QST, on them depending on your province and tax status. Choose your province's GST/HST rate to include it; this calculator does not add tax to payment processing.

Worked examples

  1. A $25 print with $5 shipping, domestic, no tax on fees: transaction 6.5% × $30 = $1.95, processing 3% × $30 = $0.90 plus $0.25, regulatory 0.50% × $30 = $0.15. Fees $3.25; you keep $26.75, less the US$0.20 listing renewal.
  2. The same order with 13% HST on Etsy's fees: 13% × ($1.95 + $0.15) = $0.27, so fees are $3.52 and you keep $26.48.
  3. The same order to a buyer in the UK: processing 4% × $30 = $1.20 plus $0.25, so fees are $3.55 before tax on fees.
