How it works

Whatnot charges two fees on each sale. The commission is a percentage of the item's sale price only, not the shipping or tax. Its rate depends on the category and on your total sales in the last four-week period: under $15,000 it is 8% (4% for coins and money), and it falls in six steps down to between 3.5% and 6.5% at $500,000 or more. Payment processing is 2.9% plus $0.30 on the whole order the buyer pays, including shipping and sales tax. In some categories, such as trading cards, coins, comics and jewellery, the commission is 0% on the part of a sale above $1,500. You keep the sale price minus both fees; this calculator assumes the shipping the buyer pays covers the label.

Worked examples

  1. Whatnot's own example: a $10 item with $4.99 shipping and $0.85 sales tax, at 8%. Commission 8% × $10 = $0.80. The buyer pays $15.84, so processing is 2.9% × $15.84 = $0.46 plus $0.30. Fees $1.56; you keep $8.44.
  2. A $100 trading card with $5.00 shipping, new seller tier: commission $8.00, processing 2.9% × $105 = $3.05 plus $0.30. Fees $11.35; you keep $88.65.
  3. A $2,000 trading card: commission is 8% on the first $1,500 only, $120.00, and processing is 2.9% × $2,000 = $58.00 plus $0.30. Fees $178.30; you keep $1,821.70, $40.00 more than without the high-value rule.

Common questions

What changed in Whatnot's fees in September 2026?

From 21 September 2026 the commission is tiered. Your total sales in a four-week period set your tier for the next period, and each category has its own rate at each tier. Under $15,000 the rate is still 8% (4% for coins); above that it falls step by step. Payment processing did not change.

How much does Whatnot take from a $100 sale?

For a seller under $15,000 in four-week sales, with no shipping or tax: 8% commission ($8.00) plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing ($3.20), so $11.20 in fees and you keep $88.80. In fashion at the $50,000 tier the commission is 5.5% and you keep $91.30.

Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?

No. The commission is charged on the item's sale price only. Payment processing (2.9% + $0.30) is charged on the whole order, including the shipping and tax the buyer pays.

What is Whatnot's high-value order rule?

In listed categories (trading cards, coins and money, comics and anime, toys, entertainment cards, sports singles, bags and accessories, jewellery and watches) Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of a sale above $1,500. Processing still applies to the whole amount.

How much should I charge to keep a set amount?

Switch the calculator to 'Amount to ask for' and enter what you want to keep. It finds the smallest sale price that leaves you at least that much after commission and processing, at your tier and category.

What does this calculator leave out?

Custom rates for the largest sellers (as low as 3%), promotional rates such as new-seller 0% weeks, the Premier Shop discount that ends on 31 October 2026, and markets outside the US.
