Goods and services means a payment to a personal account that the sender marks as goods and services. Instant Transfer adds 1.75% of what you move out, at least $0.25 and at most $25.00; standard transfer is free.

How it works

Venmo charges the person who receives a payment for goods and services. On a personal account, a payment the sender marks as goods and services costs 2.99% of the payment, with no fixed fee. On a business profile the fee is 1.9% plus $0.10, or 2.29% plus $0.09 when you take the payment with Tap to Pay. Payments between friends are free. Moving money to your bank is free with a standard transfer; Instant Transfer costs 1.75% of the amount moved, at least $0.25 and at most $25. If the sender pays with a credit card, Venmo charges the sender 3%, not you. You keep the payment minus the receiving fee, and minus the Instant Transfer fee if you use it.

Worked examples

  1. A $100 payment to a personal account, marked as goods and services: 2.99% × $100 = $2.99. You keep $97.01. Move it to your bank by Instant Transfer and 1.75% × $97.01 = $1.70 more comes off, leaving $95.31.
  2. The same $100 paid to a business profile: 1.9% × $100 = $1.90, plus $0.10: $2.00 in fees. You keep $98.00, $0.99 more than on a personal account.
  3. A $2,000 goods and services payment: 2.99% = $59.80, leaving $1,940.20. Instant Transfer would be 1.75% = $33.95, but the fee is capped at $25.00, so you keep $1,915.20.

Common questions

Does Venmo charge a fee for goods and services?

Yes, and the seller pays it. When a payment to your personal account is marked as goods and services, Venmo takes 2.99% of it, with no fixed fee. A $50 payment costs $1.50 and you keep $48.50.

Who pays the Venmo goods and services fee?

The person who receives the money. Venmo's fee page calls it a seller transaction fee, charged when you receive a payment identified as for goods and services. The sender pays nothing extra unless they pay with a credit card, which costs them 3%.

Is a business profile cheaper than goods and services?

Almost always. A business profile pays 1.9% + $0.10 instead of 2.99%. The $0.10 fixed fee only matters on small payments: at about $9 the two cost the same, and above that the business profile keeps you more.

How much is Venmo Instant Transfer?

1.75% of the amount you move to your bank or debit card, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25. A standard transfer is free. Tick Instant Transfer in the calculator to see it on your payment.

How much should I ask for so I receive a set amount?

Switch the calculator to 'Amount to ask for' and enter what you want to keep. It finds the smallest payment that leaves you at least that much after Venmo's fees, with or without Instant Transfer.

What does this calculator leave out?

Friends and family payments (free), the 3% credit card fee the sender pays, charity profiles, check cashing, crypto and the Venmo credit card. It uses Venmo's US fee page.
