An international card payment that needs currency conversion adds 2%. Zip is 5.49% + A$0.30.
How it works
Stripe charges a percentage of each payment plus a fixed A$0.30 online. Cards issued in Australia cost 1.65% and cards from anywhere else 3.5%; if the payment has to be converted into Australian dollars Stripe adds 2%. Zip, the buy now pay later option, costs 5.49% + A$0.30. PayTo and BECS Direct Debit cost 1% + A$0.30, and never more than A$3.50 in total. In person, cards cost 1.65% + A$0.10 (domestic) or 3.5% + A$0.10 (international), plus A$0.15 per payment taken with Tap to Pay. Stripe says its fees include GST and that lower international card pricing applies from 1 April 2027. You keep the payment minus these fees.
Worked examples
- A $100 online payment with an Australian card: 1.65% × $100 = $1.65, plus $0.30: $1.95. You keep $98.05.
- A $100 payment from an overseas card that needs converting: $3.50 + $0.30 + 2% ($2.00) = $5.80. You keep $94.20.
- A $1,000 invoice paid by BECS Direct Debit: 1% + $0.30 would be $10.30, but the fee is capped at $3.50, so you keep $996.50.
