How it works

eBay Australia has two ways of charging. If your registered address is in Australia, you have no Pro plan and your sales over the past 12 months are $25,000 or less, selling is free: no final value fee, only optional upgrades and a 3% international sales fee when the item is delivered outside Australia. Above $25,000, eBay moves you to Pro Starter, which has no monthly fee but charges a final value fee of 13.4% on the total amount of the sale (item price plus postage) up to $4,000, 2.5% on the part above $4,000, and $0.30 per order. The paid Pro plans (Basic, Featured and Anchor) cost a monthly subscription and charge lower rates that depend on the category, 2.75% above $4,000 and $0.33 per order. On any Pro plan the international sales fee is 1.1%. Sellers rated Below Standard, or with a Very High rate of 'item not as described' returns, pay 5.5% more (6.6% after four months). All these fees include GST.

Worked examples

  1. A $20 kitchen item on Pro Starter: $0.30 + 13.4% × $20 = $2.98, so you keep $17.02. (eBay's own example.)
  2. A $300 home appliance on Pro Basic: $0.33 + 8.03% × $300 = $24.42, so you keep $275.58. (eBay's own example.)
  3. A $5,200 sporting goods sale on Pro Anchor: $0.33 + 11.11% × $4,000 + 2.75% × $1,200 = $477.73. With no Pro plan, a $50 item with $10 postage sent overseas costs only the 3% international fee: $1.80.

Common questions

Is it free to sell on eBay Australia?

Yes, if your registered address is in Australia, you have no Pro plan and your total sales over the past 12 months are $25,000 or less. You then pay no final value fee; only optional listing upgrades and a 3% fee on items delivered outside Australia.

What are eBay Australia's fees above $25,000?

eBay moves you to Pro Starter, which has no monthly fee: 13.4% of the item price plus postage up to $4,000, 2.5% of anything above, and $0.30 per order. On a $100 sale with no postage that is $13.70.

Are eBay Pro plans cheaper?

Pro Basic, Featured and Anchor charge lower final value fees by category (for example 10.34% on Featured in most categories) and $0.33 per order, but cost $27.45, $82.45 or $604.95 a month. Use the plan comparison under the result to see which pays for itself at your sales.

Does eBay charge fees on postage in Australia?

On Pro plans, yes: the final value fee is on the total amount of the sale, which includes postage. With free selling there is no final value fee, so postage is not charged either, except for the international fee.

Do eBay Australia fees include GST?

Yes. eBay shows its Australian fees including 10% GST. If you gave eBay your ABN and registered for tax-exempt status, it charges them without GST; this calculator does not model that.

What does this calculator leave out?

Listing upgrades, Pro subscriptions (monthly, not per sale), eBay Advertising, dispute fees, currency conversion, vehicles, eBay Live, orders with several items and sellers outside Australia.
